Davey died. You might not know his records but there’s little doubt you’ve heard something that was influenced by him. He ran away from the excesses of success to find new sounds in Tangiers, created new tunings, stayed virtuoso, brilliant in the shadows.
I dug his guitar so much i sought him out last year and went to take his picture. He was charming, and beautiful and still awe inspiring through the arthritic pains of age. And he greeted me with 10am wine.

“The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn, like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars and in the middle you see the blue centerlight pop and everybody goes “Awww!”

I was asked to put forward some images for the amazing my black heart fanzine. There was no theme, and I didn’t have time to shoot something specifically for it, so I went through my unpublished work for a selection. I went for travel pictures in the end, but on the way i found a few pictures of cats and dogs that made me smile so i thought I’d share them.

Not quite the sunny road…

on friday i drove down to Brighton on a location scout. The pale winter light glinted of the water, hoards of screeching seagulls wheeled through the air, and the jagged structure of the pier, and the sad remains of the west pier, were silhouetted perfect and moody against the setting sun. An amazing location for a shoot….
By the time I arrived on monday, parts of the town had flooded, and the rain was falling so hard and fast that to stand outside for a second was to risk drowning. luckily Emiliana Torrini, the artiste i was shooting was not only lovely, but persuaded her local to let us do the whole shoot in there….
